Fashion Valley Mall Shooting Update: What San Diego Police Have Confirmed About the Mall and Nearby Incidents
SAN DIEGO, CA — Questions surrounding a possible shooting at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, California, have prompted renewed interest in police activity, public safety and reported gunfire in the Mission Valley area.
As of October 23, 2026, no new shooting inside Fashion Valley Mall has been independently confirmed through the police information and local news reports reviewed. However, previous investigations involving the shopping center and nearby locations have drawn significant attention.
Police Response Near Fashion Valley Mall
Fashion Valley Mall, a major shopping destination in San Diego’s Mission Valley neighborhood, was previously connected to a significant police search on May 18, 2026.
According to the San Diego Police Department, investigators received automated license plate alerts suggesting that a vehicle associated with two potentially dangerous individuals had been detected in the Fashion Valley area.
Officers were dispatched to the mall vicinity to investigate the possible threat. However, authorities did not locate the vehicle or suspects at the shopping center.
The investigation was connected to a deadly shooting that later occurred at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont, not at Fashion Valley Mall.
What Happened During the Previous Investigation?
The May 18 shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego left three victims dead. Two teenage suspects were subsequently found dead in a vehicle.
Police investigated the attack as a possible hate crime, while officers examined the suspects’ movements before the violence.
Although investigators received information placing the suspects’ vehicle near Fashion Valley Mall earlier that day, authorities did not identify the shopping center as the location of the attack.
Other Police Investigations Near Fashion Valley
Fashion Valley Mall also attracted attention following a separate homicide investigation in April 2026.
On April 8, San Diego police discovered a man who had suffered fatal stab wounds at T&C Park, near the shopping center.
Detectives launched an investigation and sought surveillance footage and witness information to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
That investigation involved a stabbing, not a confirmed shooting at the mall.
